The Teaching Council announces Féilte Bursary Scheme recipients

19 February 2025

The Teaching Council shared an exciting update on the Féilte Bursary Scheme, launched for the first time in 2024. This new initiative was designed to foster collaboration between schools and enhance teachers’ professional learning, while also promoting teaching as a valued profession.

Through the Féilte Bursary Scheme, schools were invited to apply for funding amounts of €2,000, €3,000, and €5,000, aimed at supporting innovative and impactful professional development activities. A total of €100,000 in bursaries has been awarded to 27 lead schools across 15 counties.

When including the collaborating schools, 98 schools in 20 counties – encompassing both the primary and post-primary sectors – will benefit from the scheme. This wide-reaching initiative includes a diverse range of school settings, such as Gaelscoileanna/Gaelcholáistí, hospital schools, special schools, special care units, YouthReach programs, as well as primary and post-primary schools in both rural and urban areas. The scheme also extends to schools located in Gaeltacht areas and those with designated DEIS status.

Many of the successful applications benefited from the involvement of local Education Centres and Higher Education Institutes, which acted as valuable collaborating partners to strengthen the impact of the proposed activities.

The recipients of the Féilte Bursary Scheme 2024 can be viewed on their website. There, you will find an overview of the application themes and the professional learning activities planned for each awardee.
