New Teaching Council Webpage Helps Future Teachers Find Accredited Programmes

The Teaching Council is excited to announce a new feature on its website—a dedicated webpage that allows the public to filter all accredited programmes of initial teacher education. This new resource is designed to assist aspiring teachers in easily finding accredited programmes that best suit their needs.

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a teacher, this webpage will be an invaluable tool in exploring the available options. The Teaching Council is committed to maintaining high standards in teacher education and ensuring that prospective teachers have access to the best accredited programmes.

The Teaching Council is responsible for setting standards for initial teacher education programmes and reviewing and accrediting them. Currently, the Council has accredited a total of 64 programmes, which include:

• 11 primary programmes (6 undergraduate and 5 postgraduate)
• 42 post-primary programmes (31 undergraduate and 11 postgraduate)
  • Note: Completing an accredited four-year undergraduate programme qualifies you as a post-primary teacher with one to three teaching subjects, depending on the programme.
• 11 further education programmes (2 undergraduate and 9 postgraduate)

The new webpage allows users to apply filters such as primary or post-primary level, course provider, or subject area. Programmes that match the selected criteria will be displayed with detailed information, including an accreditation report, a direct link to the course provider’s website, and further course details.

Additionally, a new interactive map feature has been included to visually display where each accredited programme is located across Ireland. This feature makes it even easier for users to find programmes in their preferred location.

The Teaching Council invites everyone to explore the new webpage and share this update within their networks. Feedback on the new feature is also welcomed as the Council continues to enhance resources for future educators.
